1968: AIM Patrol is devised in Minneapolis, MN in order to combat issues of police brutality.

1969: AIM occupies Alcatraz Island for nineteen months. Also, the Indian Health Board is founded as the first nationwide healthcare provider for Indians in urban communities.

1970: The Legal Rights Center is created to assist Indians with litigation issues, and provide lawyers.

1972: AIM occupies the BIA building in what is known as the Trail of Broken Treaties. Additionally, both Heart of the Earth and Red School House are founded.

1974: The American Indian Movement is recognized internationally due to the UN's creation of the International Indian Treaty Council.

1978: Women of All Red Nations (WARN) is organized in order to address the problems that are felt by women exclusively.
